Why safe-driving is important?
It pays to be a road hazard. By being a road hazard, one is more prone to accidents on the roads. And accidents. If you are lucky, you might escape unscarthed. But you might be injured or worse still, killed in a road accident, which is a pity as some of us are very young and have a bright future ahead of us.
I know I have gotten into trouble with the kerb for my previous 2 tests. Yes, luck plays a part. It is easy to point the finger at luck. But what if a pedestrian happens to be along the kerb and your car hits or mounts the kerb, wouldn’t the pedestrian get injured?
Checking of blind spots is very important when changing lanes. You might not even see a lorry beside you if you didn’t check your blind spots. And motorbikes are very fast and small machines. If you can’t even see a lorry without checking your blind spot, you surely can’t see a motorbike around.
Going at a slow but reasonable speed allows you to have ample reaction time. You won’t know when a small child suddenly dashes across the road. At least, going at a slow but reasonable speed allows you to brake in time should such a scenario happens.
Of course, road-hogging is extremely discouraged. Because you are slowing the traffic down by being a road hazard.
Majority of road accidents are the results of drink driving, speeding, using of handphone or smoking while driving. According to the Singapore Police Force, there has been a slight increase in the total number of fatal and injury accidents in general, though this figure is greatly attributed by the number of minor accidents.
Of course, you know I avoid alcohol whenever I can, so drink driving will not be a problem for me. I don’t smoke, so I won’t smoke while driving. I feel unease with only one hand on the steering wheel, so it’s unlikely I’ll be using handphone while driving.
Even though I have a fast reaction time, speeding is really dangerous, especially when you won’t know when you’ll lose control of the car. The effects will be catastrophic.
And lastly, our parents surely worry for us. By showing how safe a driver you are, at least they’ll be more than willing to take your car because they know that their lives are safe in your hands.
And some girls are extremely afraid when the car is travelling at high speeds. At least we can assure them by driving safely.
These are what I’ve learnt. This is called defensive driving.
But as of today.
I’ll drive my style of driving. Ah Seow’s style of driving.
Like finally.
By the way, my mama says it’s time for Class 4.
Edit @ 5.37pm, 15 July 2008:
Thanks for all the congrats messages.
This time it’s 8 points. All on the road. My circuit is zai.
Actually, I insist my driving is zai. Just that I suay. My friend struck kerb for the 1st time in his life during this TP test yesterday also.
Suay lah.
Yes Miss Lim Shi Ying, tell me how the other 萧 fares. Then I’ll tell you how Jeremy Tan fares on Friday.
